2008 District pairings
Monday, September 29th - Carman Ainsworth 2-1 over Grand Blanc
On Monday, Grand Blanc suffered it's first lose in the Big Nine when the Carman Ainsworth Cavaliers beat them 2-1.
To start the game, the Bobcats played with great intensity. This intensity would be rewarded early in the game when the Cavaliers were forced to foul Tim Walker in the goal box setting up a penalty kick. Matt Filos took the resulting PK and quickly put Grand Blanc up 1-0. However, with two minutes left in the first half, the Cavaliers pounced on a rebound from a CA corner kick and scored the equalizer to end the first 40 minutes 1-1.
The only scoring in the second half came from the Cavaliers when David Gibson placed a shot far-post on Kyle Huber to halt Grand Blanc's Big Nine win streak at 20 games. The last time the GB varsity boys team had lost a Big Nine contest was on September 21, 2006 against Owosso.
Kyle Huber was in net the entire match for Grand Blanc.
Thursday, September 25th - Grand Blanc 6-0 over Davison
Grand Blanc made it 5-0 in the Big Nine on Thursday by defeating the Davison Cardinals 6-0.
Ryan Keener, Billy James and Vince McKeoun each scored in the first half to stake the Bobcats to a 3-0 lead after the first 40 minutes. Grand Blanc kept up the intensity in the second half and put the Cardinals away for good behind two goals by Brad Trombley and one by Dino Vidovic.
Kyle Huber and Corey Cunningham shared the shutout for the Bobcats.
Saturday, September 20th - Rochester-Stoney Creek 2-1 over Grand Blanc
On Saturday, Grand Blanc suffered it's first lose of the year when they traveled outside of the Big Nine to take on a very good Stoney Creek Cougar team.
Both teams played to a scoreless tie the first half, however Grand Blanc struck first after the break when freshman Zach Carroll (McKeoun) raced the Cougar keeper to a loose ball and slid it past him to put the Bobcats up 1-0.
Stoney Creek quickly came back to even up the contest 1-1. The score stayed this way until the Cougars were awarded a free kick just outside of the Bobcat 18 yard box with 25 seconds remaining in the contest. Stoney Creek took advantage of the opportunity and handed Grand Blanc their first lose of the year 2-1.
Kyle Huber was in net for Grand Blanc.
Thursday, September 18th - Grand Blanc 2-0 over Flint Powers
Grand Blanc made it 4-0 in the Big Nine on Thursday by defeating the Flint Powers Chargers 2-0.
With less than one minute into the match, Grand Blanc made it 1-0 when Alex Kruse headed a throw-in from his brother, Chris, past the Chargers keeper. However, this would be one of very few opportunities either team would have in the first half and the half would end 1-0.
In the second half, Grand Blanc would finally find the net again when Zach Carroll fired a shot far post on the Charger keeper. Billy James had put a free kick into the box and Carroll made sure it did not leave the box.
Kyle Huber got the shutout for the Bobcats.
Monday, September 15th - Grand Blanc 2-1 over Flushing
Grand Blanc improved to 3-0 in the Big Nine by defeating the Flushing Raiders 2-1 on Monday night. In the first half, Flushing scored first and put Grand Blanc behind in a game for the first time all season.
In the second half, Grand Blanc came out with much more intensity and evened up the score when Zach Carroll put a header in past the Raider keeper off of a great free kick from Ryan Keener. The Bobcats winning goal was scored by Mike Machala when he took a nice pass over the Flushing defense from Zach Carroll, fought off a couple defenders and slid a shot past their keeper.
Kyle Huber got the win in net for Grand Blanc.
Saturday, September 13th - Grand Blanc 1-0 over Traverse City West
Through the pouring rain, the Bobcats avenged another lose from last year by defeating Traverse City West 1-0 on Saturday. After a scoreless first half, Vince McKeoun was able to find the net, after receiving a ball from Matt Filos, for the deciding goal.

Kyle Huber made two saves to preserve the shutout for Grand Blanc.
The JV-A Bobcats shut out the Cavaliers of Carman Ainsworth on Thursday, Sept. 11 with a 4-0 win. Brandon Hopkins took 2 for 2 on penalty kicks to get the Bobcats on their scoring roll. Chris Kruse and Ryan Pugh scored the first half goals. On Kruse's goal, he was able to put a header in past the Heritage keeper, off of a nice corner kick by Tim Walker. On Pugh's goal, he was the recipient of a nice combination play started by Zach Carroll, who slid the ball back behind the Saginaw defense to Matt Filos, who found Ryan for the goal.
In the second half, Alex Kruse jumped on a rebounded Vince McKeoun shot and slammed it into the empty net to make it 3-0. Rounding out the scoring for GB was Jacob Merrit, who deposited a great free kick by Billy James past the Saginaw keeper.

Tuesday, September 2nd - Grand Blanc 0-0 against Rochester Adams
The Bobcats fought hard against a good Rochester Adams team to come away with a 0-0 tie on Tuesday night. Grand Blanc's best chance of the night came in the first half when Tim Walker put a shot past the Adams keeper only to have it blown dead because of a questionable offsides.
In the second half, if not for the heroics of keeper Corey Cunningham, Grand Blanc could have easily seen this game go down as a defeat.
JV-A Ties It Up Against Rochester Adams
The JV-A boys team tied 2-2 against Rochester Adams with goals from
Mohammed Mohammed, assisted by Eddie Nassar. Chris Hardison assisted the final score for the Bobcats, as Eddie Nassar launched the ball into the goal.

Grand Blanc's first goal came in the first half by senior Billy James, who found a mishandled ball by the Goodrich goalkeeper and made him pay. Grand Blanc's Matt Filos, a senior, had played a short free kick to junior Aaron Tuck, who took the shot which resulted in the mishandled ball.
Grand Blanc's second goal came from junior Mike Machala, who turned and drilled a shot which was intially saved by the Goodrich keeper, but had enough top-spin to continue up and over the keeper and into the net.
Goodrich's lone goal was a result of a deflected ball which found it's way past senior goalkeeper, Kyle Huber, with 3 minutes to go in the game.
